We need approximately 6-7 weeks to make a pair of shoes to your specification. You can place your order personally in one of our Budapest stores or by contacting us in an e-mail [email protected]. Once the shoes are ready for delivery, you can pick them up in Budapest or we are pleased to send them to your home or office by FedEx. We ship worldwide.
If you want to place an order, all you have to do is to let us know what design you are looking for and the details of your order: your size, colour and leather preferences, choice of sole, etc. Browse our website or have a look at our Instagram page for more inspiration.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us in person or by e-mail.
Size
The first and most important thing to know is your shoe size. We offer shoes in whole and half sizes, from size 39 to 47. You are always welcome in our stores to find the correct size but if it is not possible, please e-mail us and let us know the size you usually wear (you can also refer to the size you wear by other makers). Please inform us if you need any adjustments on regular last, eg. some extra space for your pinky toe or a bit lower instep. It is possible to carry out some of these basic modifications in case of a Made-to-Order pair of shoes.
Last
Each shoemaker works with his own lasts – we use 9 different, self-developed last shapes. They have been tested and improved for many years, based on our own experiences and our customers’ needs. Each last has its own character that defines them from the traditional to the contemporary.
Shoe model
Sleek or brogued design? Cap-toe or wingtip? Lace-up or monk? Whatever you are looking for, you can choose from a wide selection of Vass shoe models. If you are uncertain in your choice, please ask our highly skilled staff for advice.
Colour and leather
We offer several types of high quality leather selection for your handmade shoes: calfskin (boxcalf or museum calf) sourced from the best French and Italian tanneries, the versatile suede and scotchgrain for your casual outfit, elegant Horween cordovan shells and some special, exotic skins like cayman, alligator, ostrich.
Sole
When you place an order please do not forget to think about the sole of your shoes. We exclusively work with Joh. Rendenbach oak-bark ground tanned leather soles and heels. You can choose them prepared as single or double soles with normal or bevelled waist. As an addition you can ask for rubber protection sole or metal toe tips to be built into the soles.
We offer shoes made with Vibram or Dainite rubber soles in case you wear your shoes also in rainy, wintery conditons.
Payment and Shipping
We accept credit cards or cash in our stores or if you order online you can pay through a secure online payment system by card (in Euro). We exclusively ship the shoes by FedEx. We will notify you about the delivery date of your MTO shoes by e-mail or phone and you will also receive the parcel’s FedEx tracking number.
Please note that MTO orders and Sales items are non-returnable and non-exchangable.
If you are purchasing VASS Shoes for the first time, it’s best to choose the size you usually wear for lace-up leather shoes (definitely not sneakers)! We use EU sizes and produce the shoes with regular-F fit (however shoes with different fit can be ordered).
Size comparison chart EU/UK/US
You can check your size with the slider. – Set your foot length to determine the ideal shoe size. When measuring, always stand with your heel firmly against the wall.
EU: 40.5
UK: 6.5
US: 7.5
Our most important tips for choosing the right size and last: 1. Choose the familiar shape that is most similar to the style you usually wear. 2. If the front part of your feet is slightly wider, or if you have a higher arch, or if you simply prefer a roomier fit, you may go up by half a size to one size. Be cautious with excessive upward sizing on elongated lasts, as a broken toe cap is not aesthetically pleasing! 3. If your arch is low or you often experience loose fitting around the toe, consider sizing down by a half size, especially with elongated lasts. The elongated toe area provides some extra space. 4. If you frequently need to slip in and out of your shoes (i.e. customers in Japan), opt for one size larger.
Further suggestions:
For Slippers, we generally recommend going half a size down to prevent the heel from slipping out – unless you either prefer a looser fit or it’s not feasible due to the strength of the arch.
For high boots, we usually go half a size up since they are often worn with thicker socks and some extra room is needed.
When stepping into elongated lasts (U, F, K, S), if you feel the need for more room, you can go half a size up. Be cautious when sizing up on the S last, as it is relatively long. Avoid excessive sizing up. S last is better suited for narrower feet.
If you have normal heels that are a bit narrow, choose the U, F, or K last.
For standard or slightly wider feet with traditional yet elegant needs, select the P2 last.
For wider, stronger feet, or if you prefer more traditional shapes, opt for the BP, 3636, or P lasts.
Narrow lasts with contemporary and fashionable look
U * square toe
K * pointy toe
S * flat and very elongated
Normal lasts with elegant and classic appearance
F * classic and modern
P2 * classic and a little rounder
R * rounded and comfortable
Round lasts with comfortable fit
BP * round and comfortable with high toe
3636 * round and very comfortable fit
P * wider heel, short toe
(only for Slippers and Norwegers)
Are you still unsure about your size? Please visit a local shoemaker to measure your feet or if that’s not possible, measure them yourself with the help of our guidance. Send us the information requested through our online size guide form. The videos will assist you in taking measurements. Measuring by yourself is usually not completely exact, but we will do our best to recommend the most appropriate shoes for you. Please note that this may take a few business days.
